Jacob's Ladder
Check to see how busy the beach is before you head out with this webcam of Jacobs Ladder!
Jacob’s Ladder is the name of the area at the western end of the town beach, the name comes from the wooden steps that lead up to Connaught Gardens, there have been steps at this part of the beach for as far back as anyone can remember. The ones currently at the beach are inspired by Victorian architecture and the story goes that the name comes from the ladder that leads to heaven – unsurprisingly, the gardens and the beach area reminded residents of yesteryear of Jacobs ladder to heaven!
Don’t forget, you can see lots of different views from our webcams, simply use the tools to switch from the main beach cam to the iconic cliffs of the Jurassic Coast and out to sea where you can often see pleasure boats and cruises.
